FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • No, we are not a 12-step program.

We believe there are many valid and personal pathways to healing your relationship with food and your body. Some of the women in our community follow 12-step principles, while others do not.

What matters most is that each person feels empowered to choose the path that’s right for them. We are an inclusive space that honors autonomy, respect, and individual truth. All approaches that support peace and freedom with food are welcome here—and we ask every woman who joins us to extend that same respect to others on their journey.

  • That is up to you to decide. We do not push any specific food plan or way of eating. Some women find that moderating sugar is difficult and others seem to manage just fine. So the choice is yours at whatever pace feels best for you. We are here to support you along the way.

  • We understand that abstinence does not feel peaceful for some, and yet for others it does. Soul Sisters United itself does not prescribe to any one specific pathway to recovery.

We care that you follow what is right “for you” and through the process of experimentation and self discovery we support you to learn what is best for your mind, body and spirit. For some abstinence is a miracle and for others it can be highly triggering. Only you know what is best for you.

  • We do not prescribe food plans.

Your nutritional choices should be guided by you and, when appropriate, your medical provider or practitioner.

If you've been given a specific dietary protocol, we’re here to help you move toward it with support and compassion.

If you’ve noticed that eating more protein reduces your cravings, or you’re exploring other approaches that feel right for your body, we’ll walk alongside you to help make those changes sustainable. While we don’t prescribe what to eat, we do believe that excess ultra-processed foods can be harmful to overall health, and that whole, nourishing foods support healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

We encourage movement in that direction, but how that looks is always yours to decide. Our role is to support your journey—not control it.

  • No, we do not prescribe exercise programs.

Movement is a deeply personal part of the healing journey, and everyone in our community is in a different place with it. Some women are already active, while others are just beginning to explore what movement could look like for them.

We believe in movement as a way to support overall health, emotional well-being, and recovery—not as punishment or obligation. Our approach encourages you to discover forms of movement that feel joyful, sustainable, and connected to your body—not disconnected from it. Whether you're walking, dancing, stretching, or simply learning to listen to your body again, you're welcome here—exactly as you are.

  • No you do not need a referral to participate in any of the events we host or workshops we offer.

  • Absolutely. Having a doctor, nutritionist, or therapist is incredibly valuable—but lasting change often requires support between appointments.

Our live events allow you to connect in real time with professionals who specialize in food addiction and emotional eating.

Just as important, you’ll be in the company of other women who truly understand what you’re going through—women facing the same struggles with food, body image, and emotional eating.

These events create a space not only for guidance and insight, but for connection, encouragement, and the powerful reminder that you're not alone. Healing happens faster—and lasts longer—when we walk the path together.

  • Soul Sisters United was created by Shelly-Anne Mckay, a Master Certified Coach and food addiction recovery expert who has walked this path herself. She, and every woman who leads our events has lived experience with food addiction and emotional eating—so when we say we understand, we mean it.

What sets us apart is our powerful blend of personal recovery and professional expertise. Our team includes licensed therapists, certified health and recovery coaches, and trauma-informed facilitators who specialize in food addiction—offering depth, safety, and support you won’t find anywhere else.

We offer more than just education—we create experiences. Through live events, self-paced video series, expert-led workshops, and retreats, we offer meaningful opportunities to connect, heal, and grow.

You won’t find cookie-cutter solutions here. Instead, women often tell us it feels like having a therapist, a coach, and a sisterhood—wrapped into one powerful source of support.

We’re here to help you find peace with food, feel at home in your body, and rediscover joy—on your terms, at your pace, and in a space where you truly belong.

  • Not Even Close.

We don’t offer a rigid program for you to follow—we offer a space for you to follow what your soul is truly craving. Your relationship with food, your body, and your healing journey is deeply personal. That’s why we don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions.

Instead, we provide live support sessions, experiential workshops, and meaningful practices that honor your unique needs, challenges, and pace. Our approach is flexible, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that you know what feels right for your healing.

Every woman’s path is different—and we’re here to walk beside you as you discover what peace and freedom look like for you.

  • We believe every woman deserves support—regardless of her financial situation. If cost is a barrier, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let us know what you need to make participation possible, and we’ll do our best to find a way to accommodate you. Finances should never stand in the way of healing.

It’s also important to add your name to our email list, as this is where we share invitations to free live events, special workshops, and in-person opportunities. We also post updates and resources on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, so there are always ways to stay supported and connected.

You’re not alone, and we’re committed to walking this path with you—whatever it takes.
